Truth and Reconciliation Project

Call to Algonquin Artists

Bancroft Artist / Curator Meeting
Saturday January 21 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Meeting will be at the Art Gallery of Bancroft, 10 Flint Avenue

Curators Robin Tinney and Rocky Green will be hosting a live, in person meeting to discuss the details of participation in the Truth and Reconciliation Project at the Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini Algonquin First Nation office. We will be workshopping informal discussions about the "Truth" of being Indigenous within Canada, and how you express that in your artwork.

**For more context and background information, please read the Canadian Government’s report from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, calls to action.

If you are not able to attend this meeting, we are planning Zoom meetings scheduled throughout February to cover the same information. Dates and times to be announced soon.

Additional meetings are planned for the other Algonquin communities in Ontario.

An Algonquin Indigenous Art Exhibit

The exhibition intends to unite Indigenous Nations & Canadians in contemplating our shared histories. The hope is that by examining our present situation & the potential of our futures, we can develop the resolve & understanding to move forward together.

Goals for the Project include:

  • promoting the Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini Algonquin First Nation Community
  • promoting Algonquin artists from Kijicho Manito Madaouskarini Algonquin First Nation
  • promoting artists from other Algonquin Communities
  • promoting the Art Gallery of Bancroft
  • engaging with the non-Indigenous Bancroft community on the meaning of Truth and Reconciliation
  • demonstrating the potential of Algonquin inter-community projects
